Spare: Part 2: Bloody, But Unbowed

Part 2 of Harry’s book Spare, was the longest part of the book, yet I read it much quicker than Part 1. This part of the book focuses on Harry’s time in the British Army; his first tour of Afghanistan and how it was cut short because the enemy caught wind that there was a prince on the battlefield and it was too risky to the rest of the men and women fighting for him to stay. He wouldn’t go back for another four years. During these four years, he had tried to find love, toured the world (the North Pole, and back and forth to Africa), and began flight training so that he may return to war in a much safer way. Once fully trained he was deployed once more and took on his role as a pilot/ gunner on an Apache helicopter. When his tour came to an end, he returned home to fulfill Royal duties, while continuing his journey to find love and his charitable work with wounded warriors and HIV patients. While doing all of this, he comes to realize that he is struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD. Part 2 evokes sympathy to the prince who wanted to everything for everyone, but had trouble helping himself. We’ll see what Part 3 brings, so stay tuned and pick up Spare wherever books are sold!
